Assistant Director for Internships and Professional Development A

Madison, NJ

Drew University seeks an Assistant Director in our Center for Internships and Professional Development with expertise and/or background in business, finance, and entrepreneurship and in matters of strategic partnership development. The assistant director will serve students and alumni, individually and in groups, on issues related to career planning strategies in these areas. This includes individual professional development, internship support, and job-search advising to students and alumni; advising on post-baccalaureate education opportunities, including application support; and the development and presentation of workshops and events. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, alumni, faculty, staff, and employers who are studying and/or working in business, finance, and entrepreneurship. The position reports to the Director of the Center for Internships and Professional Development.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Drew’s diverse student and alumni bodies, particularly those with interest in business, finance & entrepreneurship, in clarifying academic and professional goals.

  • Provide individual and group advising for students and alumni interested in business school.

  • Support students’ career exploration and planning through their participation in immersive experiences and their interaction with mentors, their e-portfolio, and Launch programs and resources. 

  • Supervise the collection and maintenance of current information on graduate education in business, including admissions requirements and application procedures, and assist students as needed through the application process. 

  • Help students and alumni develop and refine their skills in résumé and cover letter writing, interviewing, professional dress, networking and media, and searching for internship and job opportunities.

  • Works with the Director to design, deliver, and evaluate a university-wide employer engagement program, and liaises with local, state, and national trade organizations to bring corporate and nonprofit employers to Drew’s campus for recruitment and professional development programming.

  • Collaborates closely with on-campus stakeholders (i.e. Advancement, Communications, Finance & Administration) and builds relationships necessary to promote and support all employer relations programming and efforts.

  • Promote and market the Center to all constituents and participate in the design and delivery of career-related events, programs, and panels (including in-classroom support of courses that include career development knowledge and skill development).

  • Serve as liaison to student groups, career and identity communities, employers and organizations, particularly those related to business, finance, and entrepreneurship.

  • Assist with the collection and reporting of data related to important Center metrics.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, counseling, social work, or human resources. Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of three years of full-time experience in career services, human resources, coaching, counseling, corporate recruiting/business development, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a career services department in higher education.

  • Experience coaching, serving, or advising students, alumni, or business, finance, and entrepreneurship. Professional work in business may be substituted for this qualification.

  • Demonstrate a cutting-edge approach to empowering students from any background to navigate the path from college to career successfully.

  • Proven success in developing and maintaining internal and external relationships.

  • Strong customer service focus and success when working both independently and in cross-functional teams.

  • Collaborative, self-directed, outcome-oriented, and able and willing to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and experience facilitating workshops and delivering effective presentations. 

  • Proficient in the use of Google Office Suite, MS Office, and the use of social media as a recruitment/placement tool.
