Payroll Associate

Madison, NJ

Drew University is seeking a Payroll Associate in the Payroll Department. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payments to all faculty, staff, and student employees of Drew University while remaining in compliance with all federal and state regulations.

 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Performs all aspects of payroll administration

  • Prepares, analyzes, and transmits payroll data to the payroll service provider electronically

  • Compiles payroll data and statistics for the calculation of payroll and performs complex analysis

  • Assists Finance in the timely and accurate reconciliation of all payroll General Ledger (G/L) accounts 

  • Works collaboratively with Human Resources to update employee payroll information, including new employees, change of employees’ status, and employee terminations

  • Maintains all vacation, sick, and personal time off accruals

  • Assists as necessary for all internal and external audits related to payroll.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or relevant field with 3-5 years of experience in payroll administration; supervisory experience in payroll administration is a plus

  • Experience with outsourced vendors’ payroll and timekeeping systems, i.e., ADP, Paychex/Oasis is highly preferred. Knowledge of Banner is a plus

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to exercise good judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis

  • Able to function independently while operating effectively within a team environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and Google Suite

  • Excellent oral and written skills and ability to communicate comfortably with students, colleagues, and external constituents

  • Demonstrated ability to manage highly confidential information

  • Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations and laws pertaining to payroll; working knowledge of international student payroll is preferred

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities, complex tasks, projects, and deadlines simultaneously and in a professional and efficient manner

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
